Missing Misty Ipham
Misty Upham was a Native American actress that was assaulted while attending the Golden Globe Awards in 2013. In 2014, she was found dead. This was during the time that the #metoo movement was gaining steam, and yet, even though Harvey Weinstein had been charged with numerous cases of rape and sexual assault, Misty was not mentioned once during all the speeches or protests. When Tchiya learned of her story in 2017, she was moved to write and record this song. She was able to perform with her live band in 2018 at the Standing Rock medicine Wheel Living Park Summer Solstice celebration. For more info, visit tchiya.com

lyrics

MISTY UPHAM

Osiyo Misty Upham
I see you’re more than just a friend that I will never get to know
Sorry I missed you, Misty Upham

Misty Upham
You came to show us that this Globe is not so Golden
Now we’re all missing you, Misty Upham

Misty Upham
You wore a gown of icy teal
to let us know, that what we feel is real
See you next time, Misty Upham

Misty Upham
a rising starlet no longer shines
and awards are given to those that lie
a rapist gets accolades while a Native Woman lies in her grave

Misty Upham
Sorry I missed you Misty Upham
Now we’re all missing you, Misty Upham
See you next time, Misty Upham.
