Greetings!
This page is a reflection of the healing work that I have undertaken.
My first patient is Me!
The results of
this research and experience will in turn be reflected in my music.
In one way, this page is a sign of the things to come in terms of my
music.
My
Journey to Teotihuacan will forever be a great marker or signpost
of my life.
Many of you may
be wondering what am I referring to? Many of you think of me as a very
health conscious person. And, I am . However, there is such a thing
called trauma that affects us no matter what we eat. Traumatic events
can affect one for years if not dealt with at the time of the event
or incident.
This is the healing work that I have undertaken, after over 20 years.
I am not yet
ready to share with you the actual incidents of my youth. Perhaps in
time, this will be revealed through my music. This process finally
began for me one day in Spring 2005 when someone very close to me suggested
that I do something about my anger. I don't know why it took me so
long, but I am so glad that I did! This might shock a few of you, because
you probably think of me as a very calm and peaceful person. I have
been a practitioner of yoga for over 20 years, but when living in denial
of traumatic events, all of the love in the world, family, even reggae
music, yoga, enlightenment, herb, living and eating ital, fasting,
prayer, meditation, etc, can only take you so far.
The denial to
which I am referring is not the kind where you act like nothing happened.
It's more about not accepting that these things affect you on a cellular
level. They can affect the way you respond to the most simple things
in a huge way (kitchen sinking). And, these effects can be long lasting,
even lifelong, when not dealt with in a positive way.
For this first
entry, I will start by sharing links to some of the wonderful tools
that have helped me along the way. Now that I am no longer in denial
and am starting to get my feeling back (i.e., the numbness is melting
away), and my life in order, new tools have surfaced that are helping
me even more.

Nile
Valley Hibiscus Teas: This tea has been a family favorite for
over a decade! The flowers come from the Nile Valley, in Northern
Sudan. With the tea sales, the village has been able to build a well,
a solar powered school, and now they are building a health clinic.
Hibiscus is known for reducing
high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and is an excellent source
of vitamin C.

Severe PMS and
Nerves
I was born with some strange
nervous condition. I was given phenol barbital 3 times a day until
I was 7.
I thought my weird mood swings were because of this condition until a
friend suggested this Spring 2006 that I read about severe PMS. I thought
it meant intense cramps. No, it's mostly emotional.
The first site I found was
this one called Native Remedies. No, it is not an Indigenous owned
company. They use native herbs for the remedies. They use organic when
available and have strict standards for wild crafting. It feels like
they are really helping.

Dental Crisis 2001
Back in 2001, when I first
came out West as a performer (Sierra Nevada and Reggae on the River
to name a few), I had my first dental crisis as an adult. This is also
the first time I heard about Queen Afua. A friend living in Oakland
at the time of our tour let me borrow her copy of the book, "Sacred
Woman".
Being the the type of mom
that I am, I had looked after the teeth of my family, but not my own!
Turns out, I hadn't been for a check-up and / or cleaning for 18 years!
The dentist told me that it wasn't my teeth I had to worry about (had
to get one pulled; thank goodness only ONE!). It was my gums I needed
to be concerned about. He told me that I would need either dentures
or surgery. I said, "NO WAY!!!" I already knew about the
lies behind root canals and mercury fillings. I am sure I have told
you about Dr.
Higgins.
What did I do? I turned to
natural health! I did everything Dr. Richard Schultz and Queen Afua
told me to do in their many publications. I did a two month raw foods
cleanse. I did mud packs. I did hot baths with 4 lbs of natural bath/sea
salts. I did hours of prayer and meditation, as well as juicing. I
put Dr. Schultz' Tooth and Gum formula and his cayenne tincture right
in the container of my water pic. I used baking soda, sea salt and
hydrogen peroxide with my electric toothbrush. When I went back to
the dentist after two months, he said to me, "I don't know what
you did, but if you can maintain it, you won't need dentures or surgery."

TRAUMA.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder;
Many of us are experiencing
PTSD from past lives or from the experiences of our ancestors. Or from
Slavery. Or from Katrina. or from losing a loved one to a drive by.
Or from losing a loved one to a "mistake"
made by a trusted institution (ie, hospital, military, religion, etc.).
Or from being slipped a mickey by a friend. There are so many reasons
and causes for experiencing PTSD. Let's focus instead on how to live
with it, or even beyond it... We CAN transform this disorder into order...
I am thankful to be able to say that I AM A SURVIVOR OF TRAUMA.

Flower Remedies
Bach Flower Remedies were
my first experience with natural healing. (Other than marijuana, which
was my VERY first encounter with natural herbs and healing of any kind!)
In fact, I became a certified Bach Flower Essences Consultant! In my
medicine bag, I make sure to always have some Rescue
Remedy on hand!
Some people say that we should
use herbs that are native to where we live, (Bach is from England.
The technique originated in Africa). So, there are companies here on
Turtle Island that may work better for you. Do read up on it at the
Bach Flower sites, since they "discovered" the flower essences...

YOGA: "Yoga
Means Union; although many people think this term refers to union
between body and mind or body, mind and spirit, the traditional acceptance
is union between the Jivatman and Paramatman that is between one's
individual consciousness and the Universal Consciousness.
Therefore Yoga refers to a certain state of consciousness as well as to
methods that help one reach that goal or state of union with the divine" from Sivananda.org
I really don't recall how
i found out about yoga or yoga classes. All I remember is waking up
one morning and I was already attending classes. It's kinda funny....
Once I became pregnant, yoga
became as essential to me as breathing. It took many years before felt
anything from meditation and breathing, but once i did, I was completely
in love with yoga. I attended prenatal yoga classes with vitality and
enthusiasm.
I started off my consistent
Yoga Practice with Babaji's Kriya Yoga way back in 1992. This is of
the same school as Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of Self-Realization
fellowship and author of "Autobiography
of a Yogi", which really inspired/ influenced me... For a
few years, we practiced Babaji's Kruya Yoga as a family, everyday!
Babaji's Kriya Yoga was a cornerstone of my daughters"
home schooling curriculum. Babaji
and Mataji both serve as my yogi spiritual guides. Mataji was there
when I went into labor with my second daughter, while her dad and sister
had gone to the store!
When I found out about the Sacred
Woman Program,
I was thrilled to learn about a yoga practice, based on Kimetic Wisdom,
that is designed to deal specifically with our wombs and our lives as
women. This practice is known as"The dance of the Womb". I
call it Khat Yoga, since Womb in Kimetic is Khat. In fact, these days,
I combine Babaji's Kriya Yoga with the Khat Yoga. This is one more way
I am making changes in my life to bring about balance. With this change,
I am able to address my female and male energies to form a
"more perfect union".
Smai Tawi: Egyptian Yoga and
Meditation Practices
"Egyptian Yoga is a term that
reveals the paths to attain the highest goal of spirituality,
supreme wisdom and immortality. The Ancient Kamitans
practiced certain disciplines including postures, chants,
meditations, wisdom teachings, manipulations of life
force, ritual and other disciplines to purify the body
mind and soul and to discover the infinite and transcendental
truth.Read the Books and see detailed and documented
evidences showing that Yoga disciplines originated and
were practiced in Ancient Africa earlier than anywhere
else in history!"
Currently, I am reading "Egyptian
Yoga" and "the
Glorious Light Meditation" both by Dr. Muata Ashby.

AIYU : MISSION STATEMENT
"AIYU
is a pronoun which refers to the I in you and the you in me and that
both you and I are part of the All That Is and it is the All That Is
that is the Oneness that we share. AIYU refers to the mirrors of the
soul, in that I see myself in you for I am You, and You see yourself
in Me, for You are Me. What I give to you and do to you, I do to myself.
Every kindness I extend to you, every loving word that I say to you,
I say to myself. It represents an exalted state of being in this world
that is much needed at the moment to bring a harmonious state of peace
and Oneness to the world. In this Oneness, lies the common thread of
divinity that is embodied in every single being, every single aspect
or facet of creation."

Powerful Affirmations: You may have heard the story about
the hurricane that followed my car from the border of Texas to Fort Worth
when LLuvia and I went to Austin for the Woman's Music Festival in April,
2007?....well, after that, plus the accident just minutes from our exit
back in the Bay Area, caused me to seek a lil' bit of guidance from a
dear friend, known as Diamond the Healer Woman. This is the same woman
that wrote the powerful letter so that we wouldn't have to receive immunizations
when traveling from peru to Brasil...
These are the affirmations that she shared with me, and have been so
very useful to me. |
1. I come into every situation at oneness with myself.
2. I choose to be at peace.
3. My primary repsonsibility is to be at peace.
4. I am continuously in a state of Inner Peace that cannot be disturbed
by external influences. |
ACUTONICS: I have been seeing
a practitioner for over a year.
Not everyweek or anything.
Just when I need re-alignment.
I will be going for trainingin October,
so when you see me next time, ask me about a treatment!
What is it? Healing with sound. Tuning forks placed on the accupressure points.
It really works, and is unobtrusive.
