Sirius Wisdom and Information
We
are past the point of the longest day of the year: the Summer
Solstice. We now enter the hottest time of the year: THE DOG
DAYS! How, you may ask, did the Middle of Summer (August 1) come
to be associated with "Man's Best Friend"? Well, July
23 marks the beginning of the period associated with Sirius Rising:
the time of year when Sirius,
the Dog Star,
is visible once again in our skies, after having been hidden from
us for 70 days. This period also corresponds to burial & embalming
practices of the Ancient
Egyptians and to the flooding cycle of the River Nile. Each
day beginning with July 23, Sirius reappears in a different location
each night starting with Mali (the home of the DOGON TRIBE),
then July 26 at Chichen
Itza in the Yucatan/Maya (this day also marks the beginning
of the new year according to the Mayan calendar). At 30 degrees
North and at the Great
Pyramid of Giza, Sirius heliacally rises around August 1. I
used to be able to see Sirius again in Austin, TX around my birthday,
August 5. I must mention that the Dog Days open with Haile
Selassie's birthday (July 23) and close with Marcus
Mosiah Garvey's birthday (August 17).
According
to the Kimetians (Ancient Egyptians), the reason it gets so hot
during the Dog Days is because this is the time of the heliacal
rising of Sirius: Sirius rises just moments before the sun, this
is how we can see it. Just ten days before, Sirius was rising at
the same time as the sun: we were not able to see the star because
of the light of the sun. In other words, this is the time of year
when we are closest to Sirius. The helacal rising of Sirius was
one of the most sacred moments of the year in Ancient Kimet and
was used as the basis for beginning their New Year celebrations.

Two Dogs
The Cherokee-(Canis Major)
There are two dogs (alpha and beta Canis Majori) who guard the path
to the land of souls. To get past the dogs one should bring food. Be
warned, if you give food to the first dog (alpha) he will let you pass,
but if you fail to save some food for the second dog (beta) you will
be trapped between them forever.
